Asuka Yanai is a versatile violinist renowned for her proficiency across genres including contemporary, classical, hip-hop, and jazz. Inspired by her grandfather, she began playing the violin at age four and has since collaborated with esteemed ensembles and artists such as Friction Quartet, Elevate Ensemble, Gordon Getty, Curious Flights, and members of the San Francisco Symphony.
Her technical prowess and artistic development have been significantly influenced by mentors Axel Strauss and Bettina Mussumeli. At 17, Asuka's passion for music education led her to teach at the Young Musicians Choral Orchestra (YMCO), where she also served as concertmistress. She concluded her tenure with a memorable performance of Samuel Barber's Violin Concerto, Op. 14, performed entirely from memory.
Asuka's dedication to her craft earned her a full scholarship to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she was the sole undergraduate selected to tour Europe with the faculty, performing alongside them. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance from the Conservatory and a Master's degree from the Royal Academy of Music.
Throughout her career, Asuka has embraced diverse musical styles, yet she maintains a special affinity for romantic compositions. Her performances are characterized by a deep emotional connection and technical excellence, captivating audiences worldwide.
